Ushaw Historic House Chapels and Gardens

Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens is an arts heritage and events venue, just 4 miles from the historic city of Durham.

Ushaw was once a Catholic seminary, training priests for over two centuries from 1808 until 2011. In 2014, Ushaw opened to the public for the very first time and started a process of restoring it to its former glory.

Set in a five hundred acre estate, the glorious Georgian and Gothic Victorian buildings, with a wealth of architecture by the illustrious Pugin family, and a social and religious history which goes back to the Reformation, make Ushaw a unique tourist attraction in the North East of England.

Thousands of visitors come to see the nineteenth-century chapels and function rooms and to stroll around the beautiful formal gardens, as well to experience amazing exhibitions and wonder-filled events!

To learn more about Ushaw, please visit: ushaw.org

Ushaw offers a broad range of high quality volunteer roles and requires welcomers, stewards, tour guides, shop assistants, gardeners and maintenance support. Volunteers are fully supported in their work and receive a corporate induction and full training.
