Useful Information

From grassroots committees to national and international charities, volunteers are crucial to the effective operation and delivery of services across the sector. The way that an organisation recruits, manages and invests in its volunteers can have a demonstrable impact on the individual, the organisation, and the community it serves.

County Durham Volunteer Coordinators Forum

The Forum was established in 2006 and provides the opportunity for staff / volunteers who are responsible for volunteer management in their organisation to network with staff / volunteers from other organisations who have similar responsibilities. The forum is facilitated by Durham Community Action.

At regular meetings presentations are given by organisations on new initiatives or overviews of volunteering programmes. Regular topics include changes in volunteer policy and legislation, funding possibilities and local training available to volunteers.

Training and support are also offered to forum participants to enable them to be effective in their roles as volunteer co-ordinators and a regular survey is undertaken to identify any training and support needs.
