Steward

Langley Park

Stewards provide a vital link between the visitors’ initial welcome and their enjoyment of Ushaw’s chapels and exhibition spaces.

Although there is a clear overlap between the responsibilities of the Welcomer and Steward, the role is specifically designed to share more detailed information in relation to Ushaw’s open spaces and the various exhibitions, with a particular emphasis on history, art and architecture.

There is a requirement to learn information in greater depth and the ability to deliver interesting facts and anecdotes in an engaging and stimulating way to inspire visitors of all ages.

Responsibilities

To provide a warm and hospitable welcome to all our visitors, and to maximise their enjoyment of the building and grounds by proactively engaging with people to inform and inspire.

Handling requests for information and assistance, whilst signposting to the appropriate services and support channels.

Contribute to the overall responsibility of all staff and volunteers to maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of our visitors.

Working with other volunteers to provide a joined-up and consistently high quality customer service experience to our visitors.

There are opportunities to get involved with other events and activities that occur at Ushaw.

Skills & Qualities

To be a good communicator with the ability to be visible, approachable, to engage and share information, and to assist visitors with their enquiries is a fundamental aspect of the role.
