Do you want to make a positive impact in your community, build valuable skills, and support people when they need it most? Join us as a Volunteer Telephone Advisor and help local people access the information and support they need.
No two days will be the same! As a Volunteer Telephone Advisor, you’ll be:
• Listening carefully to clients and helping them share their situation
• Using our advice systems (with full support) to research information and options
• Explaining choices clearly so people can make informed decisions
• Recording cases accurately on our secure database
• Spotting common issues to help highlight challenges affecting local communities
You don’t need any previous experience - we’ll give you all the training and support you need. We’re looking for someone who is:
• Friendly, approachable, and non-judgemental.
• A good listener who can gather information with patience and empathy.
• Confident with reading, writing, and basic maths
• Comfortable using IT for online research, case recording, and virtual learning.
• Aligned with our values on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
We ask for a commitment of 6–14 hours per week for around 18 months, but we’ll work with you to find a schedule that fits.
• We will invest in your development with training, mentoring, and real-life experience to build your confidence, skills, and future opportunities.
• Travel expenses will be reimbursed for agreed trips to your local office or training sessions.
