Stonemason

Bishop Auckland

Under taking activities alongside our resident stone mason, you will be undertaking tasks that will restore/maintain our historic monument using the same traditional skills as our ancestors. These activities are physically demanding so a good level of fitness is required.

Responsibilities

• Re-pointing and repairing stonework
• Hammer and chisel work consisting of knocking out stone and brick.
• Replacement
• Hydraulic lime pointing
• Stone dressing
• Attend training/briefing sessions gaining new skills and sharing existing ones
• Working alongside the stonemason on small renovation projects within the grounds of the estate

Skills & Qualities

• Over 18
• Is a punctual time keeper
• Willing to work outdoors
• Has had some customer experience (not essential)
• Is reasonably fit
• Is able to use hand tools
• Is able to follow instructions
• Is Health & Safety conscious
• Is a good team player
• Is a good Communicator
• Is willing to undertake essential training some being online modules
• Has the ability to be non-judgemental and acknowledge an individual's right to space
• Has a neat personal appearance

You will be asked to provide and wear appropriate clothing and footwear, role/activity dependent. The Auckland Project is unable to reimburse travel expenses.

volunteers with The Auckland Project (TAP ) have access during opening times to the Visitor attractions, Auckland Castle, Spanish gallery, Mining Art Gallery in order to understand these visitor attractions and act as an ambassador for TAP as part of being a volunteer.
