Move Mate

Spennymoor, Chester le Street, Volunteering from Home , Durham City

Move Mates is a walking buddy project. We pair people who struggle to get out on their own, with one of our wonderful volunteers, for a regular walk.
Move Mates is for adults of all ages and can help people with short-term goals such as building confidence to get to new places, or with longer-term support to improve physical, mental, and emotional health outcomes.

Volunteer opportunities

Move Mate – We need volunteers who would like to walk and talk with someone who would otherwise struggle to leave their home. Being a walking buddy is so rewarding and such a simple way to volunteer.

Administrator – We need volunteers to help run the Move Mates project. From ID checking new volunteers, to making monitoring calls with beneficiaries or checking walk logs, there are plenty of administrative tasks to get involved with.

Move Mail Deliverer – We need volunteers to deliver our post. This role is perfect for those who have sporadic work patterns or hobbies and may not feel they can commit to more regular volunteering. Our volunteers deliver mail to beneficiaries and volunteers using peoplepower (walk, run, cycle), giving you a great reason to get out and move whilst providing practical support.

Fundraiser – We need volunteers to complete challenges and raise funds to support our important work!

Wellbeing Walk Leader – We need volunteer Wellbeing Walk Leaders. These volunteers facilitate conversation and provide confidence and moral support amongst walk participants. They allow isolated people to get moving in a social setting and provide a relaxed, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
