The Gift Shop Assistant position is a fulfilling role offering a range of tasks to support the gift shop’s operations, from engaging with customers and processing sales transactions to maintaining a high standard of displays throughout the shop.
The Shop Assistants work with the Retail Supervisor to deliver outstanding customer service to our customers and do everything possible to maximise sales so that the profit can be reinvested in Ushaw’s heritage and cultural priorities.
No two days are ever the same at Ushaw Historic House Chapels and Gardens so you need to be prepared to get involved.
Delivering excellent customer service to Ushaw’s visitors by offering a warm welcome, providing advice on the range of products for sale and to respond to general enquiries.
To clean and tidy product displays and shop fittings, monitoring stock levels as appropriate.
Processing ticket and product sales, operating the till in line with established processes and procedures.
To maintain the security of products within the shop.
To resolve any issues at the earliest opportunity or to refer to the Duty Manager.
There are opportunities to get involved with other events and activities that occur at Ushaw.
To be a good communicator with the ability to be visible, approachable, to engage and share information, and to assist visitors with their enquiries is a fundamental aspect of this role. The ability to handle difficult situations with empathy, understanding and openness. Numerate and confidence in processing sales.
