To support the conservation, maintenance and enhancement of our historic estate by engaging corporate volunteering groups in meaningful activities. Volunteers work alongside our Gardens and Estates teams, contributing to practical projects that help preserve the historic fabric of the estate, maintain beautiful gardens and green spaces, and create a positive social and environmental impact through employer-supported volunteering.
Employer Supported Volunteers will take part in a variety of practical conservation, maintenance and gardening activities across the estate. Tasks may include:
* Painting and decorating projects
* Basic repairs and restoration work
* Tidying, cleaning and upkeep of historic spaces
* Supporting the care and preservation of heritage buildings and estate features
* Assisting the Gardens Team with the maintenance and development of green spaces, including the **Walled Garden**, **Paradise Garden**, **Wilderness Garden**, and **car park areas**
* Seasonal gardening tasks such as weeding, planting, mulching and general grounds maintenance
These hands-on activities provide an excellent opportunity for team building, skills development and employee engagement, while making a valuable contribution to the conservation of an important part of County Durham's heritage and supporting the local community.
Willing to 'muck' in for a day.
**Garden Volunteering**
* Available on **Tuesdays and Thursdays**
* Volunteers will work alongside the Gardens Team in a variety of locations across the estate, including the **Walled Garden**, **Paradise Garden**, **Wilderness Garden**, and **car park areas**.
**Estate Maintenance Volunteering**
* Available on **Wednesdays**
* Volunteers will support practical conservation and maintenance projects across the estate, helping to preserve and enhance our historic buildings, spaces and grounds.
Corporate groups of up to **16 colleagues** can be accommodated on each volunteering day, providing a rewarding opportunity to support the estate while taking part in a team-building experience.
We want all volunteers to feel welcomed, informed and confident in their role. The following support will be provided:
* **Written joining instructions** and relevant information will be sent to organisers/leads when their booking is confirmed.
* A **meet and greet on arrival**, including a short introduction to **The Auckland Project**, its mission and the impact of volunteering.
* A briefing on the day's activities, including health and safety information.
* **Tool talks and task-specific guidance** will be provided on site by members of the Gardens or Estates Team, as required for the activities being undertaken.
* Ongoing support and supervision throughout the volunteering session, with opportunities to ask questions and learn new skills.
No previous experience is necessary—just enthusiasm, a willingness to get involved and suitable clothing.
Free parking available, and an opportunity for a short tour of one of the visitor venues at the end of the day.
