Responsibilities

What you’ll do:
What you’ll be doing
• Propagating, planting, weeding, mulching, and border care
• Lawn maintenance including grass cutting and edging
• Preparing beds, digging, and leaf clearing
• Caring for, harvesting, and sharing home-grown vegetables with the community
• Helping repair paths, benches, and garden structures
• Supporting new planting schemes and seasonal displays
• Welcoming visitors and being a friendly point of contact
• Attending training/briefing sessions to learn new skills and share your knowledge


Skills & Qualities

We’re looking for people who are 18 and over and an understanding of basic IT:

• Has an interest or skills in gardening, nature, or the outdoors
• Is reasonably fit (some tasks involve lifting, bending, and walking over uneven/challenging terrain)
• Can work independently once shown an activity, but also enjoys being part of a team
• Is reliable, punctual, and willing to follow health & safety guidance
• Is friendly, approachable, and happy to interact with visitors
• (Desirable but not essential): previous customer/visitor experience


When & Where?

Location: The Auckland Project, Bishop Auckland
🕐 When: Monday–Thursday (flexible, ideally once a week)

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

We ask Volunteers to take online essential training modules, and then training is dependent on the role/area. Induction sessions form part of the training.
Regrettably we can not reimburse travel expenses at this time.

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers are issued with an annual pass for themselves to our visitor attractions within Bishop Auckland.

Accessibility and Transport Info

All our garden spaces can be accessed via the Market Place in Bishop Auckland. Volunteers can park in North Bondgate Car Park when volunteering with no charge.
