Fire Cadet Adult Volunteer

Weardale, Spennymoor, Peterlee, Consett, Durham City

Help deliver County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) Fire Cadet programme which inspires and empowers young people to Be The Best they can be, supported by the Fire Cadet Unit Leader(s) and Instructor(s). Background in Fire and Rescue Service not required.

Responsibilities

• Delivering the training and development of Fire Cadets programme as defined by Fire Cadet Unit Leader(s)
• Ensuring standards of discipline are maintained in accordance with the Fire Cadet Code of Conduct
• Ensuring delivery of a safe, healthy, and productive environment for all within the Fire Cadet Unit
• Ensuring support needs of Fire Cadets are met

Skills & Qualities

• Good interpersonal skills
• Experience of working as part of a team
• Ability to relate to young people
• Ability to engage, support and motivate young people using a range of methods
• Commitment to delivering once a week in term time for about two hours, plus extra preparation time. If possible, a commitment over one year is expected
• No experience of working with young people is necessary

When & Where?

Evening sessions during term time:
• Wednesdays - Consett Community Fire Station
• Thursdays - Darlington Community Fire Station (Launching October 2023)
• Thursdays - Durham Fire Station
• Tuesdays - Peterlee Fire Station
• Thursdays - Stanhope Fire Station
• Thursdays - Spennymoor Community Fire Station

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

• The completion of two training sessions – one of which will be a general induction session incorporating CDDFRS policies and procedures and the other will be a specialised safeguarding session
• Reimbursement of expenses
• Appropriate assignments – we will try to find a role that best suits your skills
• Ongoing support from Fire Cadet Unit Leaders and Instructors
• An enhanced DBS (police check) check
• Ongoing training opportunities
