Exhibition Support Volunteers help bring exhibitions at the Artists Hub to life. This hands-on role supports artists and staff with setting up exhibitions, caring for artworks, helping organise submissions, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. It’s ideal for people who enjoy practical tasks, creativity, and being part of a welcoming community space.
Exhibitions & Displays
Helping hang and install artworks with guidance from staff
Assisting with setting up and taking down exhibitions
Supporting the safe handling and care of artworks
Interpretation & Presentation
Helping prepare and put up labels, wall text, and other interpretation materials
Supporting staff to make exhibitions clear, engaging, and accessible to visitors
Organisation & Administration
Helping organise and process artwork submissions
Keeping exhibition paperwork tidy and up to date (paper and digital)
Supporting general admin tasks related to exhibitions
General Support
Working alongside artists, staff, and other volunteers
Helping create a friendly, supportive atmosphere in the Hub
Following basic health and safety guidance, especially when handling artworks
not everything may be required every time.
You don’t need formal experience — we’re more interested in your enthusiasm.

We’ll try to fit around your availability
We ask Volunteers to take online essential training modules, and then training is dependent on the role/area. Induction sessions form part of the training.
Regrettably we can not reimburse travel expenses at this time.
Volunteers are issued with an annual pass for themselves to our visitor attractions within Bishop Auckland.
The Artist Hub is at No 43 Market Place, it is accessible, near carparks and bus routes
