Help to reduce social isolation and loneliness amongst elderly people in Sacriston

Responsibilities

Visiting an elderly person on a weekly or fortnightly basis. This might look like having a chat in their homes, doing a puzzle together, going for a walk or sitting on a bench in the park.

Skills & Qualities

We're looking for:
A friendly, caring personality
Someone who is able to listen well
Someone with the ability to hold a conversation and to ask good questions.

Various houses around Sacriston

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Upon application, you will be invited to an informal interview, after which successful applicants will receive training so you feel confident and comfortable in your new befriending role.

Once the Befriending relationship has started, you'll receive regular supervision and support from the Volunteer Coordinator.

You will meet a new person and hopefully make a new friend! You will be able to develop your caring and conversational skills. But most of all, you'll have the benefit of knowing you have made a tangible difference to someone's life.
