COVID-19 booster vaccination support Marshal

We are looking for volunteers to support the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme at County Hall, Durham. The programme will run from mid- September to mid- December operating over 7 days a week.
The COVID-19 booster programme at County Hall will be for front line staff, and workers in the health and social care sector.
You will help healthcare staff to ensure that service users are supported in accessing their vaccination and their immediate aftercare. This is an exciting opportunity to play your part in protecting the community and saving lives.
The main aim of the role will be to ensure service users are where they are supposed to be and are ready for their vaccine, as well as providing reassurance. The role will focus on service user welfare, taking direction from staff and to be responsible for flow management of service users within and outside Vaccination Centres and allocated car parks.

It is important to stress at this point that after a successful application process volunteers will be added to a volunteer bank and it is envisaged that they will notified as and when shifts become available, which are expected to become busy once fully operational.

Responsibilities

There are 3 main roles a Volunteer Marshal may be asked to support with based on whether the role is to support at the entrance site or exit.

Main entrance
• Ask service users if they are here for their Covid vaccination.
• Check their appointment time (if they are very early and have come in car, ask them to wait in the car).
• Support with service user flow into building/reception area.
• Assisting with social distancing measures.
• Providing support for those with mobility problems
• Establish if service users need extra assistance and that practice staff are aware.
• Explaining there is a one-way system and how this works (book in, complete consent form, clinic room for vaccine, 15 min observation period, exit via a different door).
• Possibly car park marshalling where/if required.

Consent Form/Vaccination Marshalling

• Assisting service users with the correct direction in the building before their vaccination.
• Give the service user a leaflet with information regarding the vaccination.
• Supporting service users to complete their consent form.



15-minute observation after the vaccination and support to exit the building
• Monitor service users following their vaccination (15 mins) – show service users where the clock is or check if they have a watch/phone with time.
• Confirm with the service user what time they can leave and assist service users who need support during this time.
• Wipe down chairs between each service user use.
• Inform the clinical staff of any service user experiencing problems.
• Assist service users who needs support on exit.

Skills & Qualities

No previous experience is required but we are looking for volunteers with the following skills:

· Good communication
· Team working.
· Ability to organise.
· Be able to deliver at a reasonable pace.

You will also need to have the ability to communicate in a calm and professional manner, take instructions from staff members closely following risk assessment and health and safety directives and the responsibility not to attend sessions if you are feeling unwell or develop symptoms of Covid which must be reported

When & Where?

County Hall, Durham
Shift patterns will be (however flexibility will be required depending on the time of the last scheduled appointment):
08:00-14:00 and 14:00-20:00 Monday to Friday
08:00-13:00 and 13:00-18:00 Sat and Sun

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Full travel expenses will be offered if needed including a mileage allowance.
