Volunteering to help run a small arts centre

Volunteering from Home

We are looking for volunteers to help run a small arts centre in Darlington, which provides all sorts of different courses in painting and drawing, ceramics, jewellery and other crafts, seeking to help the mental health and wellbeing of the local population. The organisation is entirely run by a small but committed group of volunteers and it would be great to welcome some more to assist us in several different areas in order to grow and prosper.

Responsibilities

At this particular moment we are looking for someone who could help with our finances. It is not a complicated job but book-keeping or accountancy experience would be required. There are also many different volunteering opportunities, including some simple administration (taking bookings, helping to arrange courses, marketing and publicity, dealing with tutors and students), gardening, helping to arrange an annual fete and the occasional exhibition. Some would involve several hours a month; other tasks would be event specific.

Skills & Qualities

Very few skills are needed, although computer skills are important (as many of the tasks could be done from home on line) and the finance volunteer would need some book-keeping or accountancy experience. The other jobs can easily be learned and only require enthusiasm and commitment to making the Bridge a pleasant place to come to.

Volunteer travel expenses will be paid for, with an agreed maximum, as well as any relevant training and support from the Board. There is a computer available at the Bridge.

Volunteer Benefits

We are a small but very friendly organisation which deals in many various arts and crafts activities and you will be helping to enhance the mental health and well being of the students who come from all sorts of backgrounds, as well as finding out more about any creative outlets you may be interested in.

Other Information

Any adult over 18 would be welcome, including people with disabilities and it is possible to do a great deal of some of the work from home, if you have your own computer.
