Volunteer with the Friends of Wharton Park

The chance to come and join our enthusiastic group. There will be opportunities to help the Park Rangers, the Park Education Team and at Park events. Also, volunteers organise and manage our lovely Community Garden, meeting regularly in the Garden.

Responsibilities

Volunteering with the Rangers, at Events or with the Education Team, you will be guided by them. Volunteering in the Garden means you will help to sow, plant, prune as well as welcome all our visitors. You can also help with fundraising in the Garden.

Skills & Qualities

Volunteers should be enthusiastic and keen on working in outdoor spaces, meeting others, working in a group. Garden skills are helpful, with an awareness of valuing the Community.

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

We provide a Volunteer's Handbook, Health & Safety Advice and guidance and equipment. We can't cover travel costs. We do organise training as necessary with the County Council.

Other Information

There is a minimum age of 16 Maximum age is a private matter for the volunteer. The park is hilly and steep, the cafe, toilets and Park Office are at the top of the hill, while the Community Garden is in the lower area of the park.
Some tasks can be done from home, online, or in an outdoor area. Vulnerable adults and people with disabilities are given due consideration with Risk Assessments and provision, as appropriate.
