GFS Virtual Activity Leaders are people who want to help deliver fun and inspiring sessions to girls and young women online.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, some of our groups are running virtually via video link (Zoom). Every week, girls come together to take part in interactive activities run by GFS volunteers. During these virtual sessions, we run topic based online activities each week around our six programme themes: Happy to be me, My community, Be creative, Get active, Have fun and Skills for life.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in running and facilitating interactive online activities that will benefit girls and young women by:

● Building confidence, self-esteem, wellbeing and resilience
● Creating support networks and foster friendship
● Developing healthy life skills

There is also an opportunity to continue volunteering with a local GFS Group once we reopen in our venues this autumn 2020.

Responsibilities

● Helping run and host weekly Zoom session for girls and young women
● Facilitating online interactive activities and discussions, offering the girls encouragement and support to participate
● Helping plan online sessions for the girls, organising any online materials needed for the sessions and helping with set up, register and introductions
● Managing different functions on the Zoom video call while the session is active, this may include the chat function, polls, screen sharing and breakout rooms
● Communicating with parents via closed Facebook Group and GFS email about online sessions and activities coming up
● Understanding GFS policy and procedures and following them, especially safeguarding

Skills & Qualities

● A good level of ability and understanding of IT/video conferencing skills or a willingness to learn
● Happy to be a supportive member of the volunteer team, helping out wherever needed
● A passion for building the confidence of girls and young women through fun and inspiring activities
● Willing to take a training course in Safeguarding and help report safeguarding or wellbeing concerns to GFS staff as soon as possible
● Help with creating good relationships with parents through social media

When & Where?

GFS Virtual Groups run on an afternoon or evening during the week in term time.

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

We provide training for our volunteers and cover reasonable travel expenses.

Other Information

For our roles that work directly with girls, we can only accept female volunteers under the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.

This role requires a DBS check which is paid for by GFS
