Responsibilities

Teaching on a one to one basis. With a new learner you will assess their prior knowledge and together work out a learning plan according to their individual needs. You will work at the pace of the learner.

Skills & Qualities

No experience of teaching is needed, but you will need at least a working knowledge of Windows. At the moment our laptops are installed with Windows 10. It would be an advantage if you had a working knowledge of an iPad as many of our learners have been given one by relatives and have no idea even how to switch it on.

When & Where?

Charles Dickens Lodge, Barnard Castle. One session is held in the morning from 10 to 12 and a second session is held from 2 till 4. We need volunteers for both sessions but you can choose whether you want a morning or an afternoon session

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Full training and support is given as needed. All teaching materials are provided.

Volunteer Benefits

The work is great fun and we are providing a much needed service. Our past and present volunteers would tell you that they feel that they get as much out of the group as they give.

Other Information

We work to school term times as many of the learners and tutors have babysitting responsibilities in the holidays. There is no end point for the learners. They leave when they feel that they have achieved what they want. All of the teaching is learner centred
