Volunteer Treasurer and Trustee wanted for Cycling Charity

Volunteering from Home

We are looking to fill two voluntary roles at Recyke y’bike: Treasurer and General Trustee.

Our Treasurer is the financial steward of the charity, ensuring that resources are managed efficiently and transparently, and that financial regulations and reporting requirements are adhered to.

Our General Trustees sit alongside a board of volunteers from various walks of life. Trustees play a key role in setting our direction and overseeing our work, contributing to our Board meetings on a diverse range of topics.

Recyke y’bike leases property in Byker and Chester-le-Street. Bikes are donated or we collect abandoned bikes. These are refurbished by a team of staff and volunteers and then sold at a minimal price to cover running costs, or they are given away to people in need. We also provide formal and informal training in bike maintenance through community outreach so that more people have the skills to keep their bikes in good repair. You can visit our website www.recyke.bike for more information.

Responsibilities

Treasurer: your expertise in finance, budgeting, and financial planning will be crucial in maintaining the sustainability of our operations and supporting the growth of our initiatives.

Your role will involve working with Recyke-y’bike’s finance manager, who is responsible for the day-to-day finances of the charity, and you will attend Board meetings where you will communicate this work to your fellow trustees and other stakeholders, as well as contribute more generally to Board discussions.

General Trustee:
Your responsibilities will be to attend our Board meetings, helping us to run our charity, contributing to discussions and decision-making to ensure we deliver on our purpose as a charity, manage conflicts of interest, safeguard our people, and manage our finances, etc.

We encourage our trustees to volunteer in our bike shops, workshops or outreach activities so they can get to know the charity well.

Skills & Qualities

Treasurer: We are looking for someone with a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA). You’ll need proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the not-for-profit sector, and you’ll have a sound knowledge of the financial regulations and reporting requirements for charitable organisations, as well as analytical and strategic planning skills.

General Trustee: you will have the skills needed to help us meet our objectives as a charity, but previous experience as a trustee is not essential.

Both posts require strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork and collaborative working.
