Sacriston Youth Project are recruiting Trustees to join on our board of Trustees. As a trustee, you can make a real difference to the young people of Sacriston and surrounding villages in County Durham.

Sacriston Youth Project (SYP) is a community-based youth charity supporting children and young people in Sacriston and surrounding communities across County Durham. Originally established as a Durham County Council youth project, SYP became an independent charity in 2016 following the closure of local authority-run youth clubs. Since then, we have grown into a thriving organisation providing safe spaces, trusted relationships and meaningful opportunities for young people.

In 2025–26, our work has been recognised through a number of achievements and awards, including the NE Youth Project of the Year, the County Durham Together Environment Award and recognition through the Durham County Council Environment Awards. At the heart of everything we do is one simple belief: every young person deserves somewhere to belong, someone to believe in them and the opportunity to reach their potential. Your role as a Trustee will be integral to supporting this important work.

Responsibilities

As a Trustee, you will have responsibility to:
- Attend six meetings per year and provide support to the Charity Manager
- Ensure the youth project has a clear vision, strong leadership and works towards its charitable aims
- Ensure our young people are safe and that the charity meets its legal, financial and safeguarding responsibilities.

Skills & Qualities

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about their local community and who want to use their skills and experience, whatever they may be, to support the children and young people involved in our project.

We’d especially love to hear from people who have skills or experience in working with children, young people, families, education, youth services, SEND or community work, but all backgrounds are welcome!
