Bishop Auckland

Assisting in tutoring young people between the ages of 16 to 19. In some cases, this may also include pre-16-year-olds and up to 24 years old, depending on a learners needs. To act as a support to Catch22 tutors, both in a tutor role and as a classroom assistant or a learning mentor

Responsibilities

Assisting learners to understand the subject matter they are learning and provide pastoral support when needed. 1:1 and small group work.

Skills & Qualities

Ideally, this role will suit a retired tutor/teacher or anyone who had had experience working with young people or who are looking to work with young people and would like some additional experience.

When & Where?

Catch22 college is in Bishop Auckland. The student catchment area includes Bishop Auckland, Barnard Castle, Crook, Shildon and outlying districts.. The volunteer would be required to attend 2 days per week. possibly more if the volunteer wished.

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

We value the contribution of volunteers and are committed to involving them in appropriate roles and in ways which encourage, support and develop volunteering. We will ensure that they are properly integrated into the organisational structure.
We will ensure our volunteers are adequately trained by relevant professionals in areas such as safeguarding to ensure both their safety and that of our service users. Volunteers are entitled to receive out of pocket expenses that reimburse the travel and direct activities related to their role.

Other Information

All volunteers whose work falls within the Disclosure Barring Service’s (DBS) definition of ‘regulated activity’, or whose role gives them access to the personal records of those with whom Catch22 works must have an enhanced DBS check before being given unsupervised access to service users and this must be renewed at least once every 3 years. This must be a new DBS check upon recruitment – ported DBS checks are not acceptable for volunteer roles.
