Museum Volunteers

To assist museum staff with providing a warm welcome to visitors and to assist with the general organisation of any museum activities.

Responsibilities

Welcome visitors to the museum.

Provide desk duty – admission and shop sales.

Assist children and adults with brass rubbing activities.

Opportunities to help research and improve museum displays.

Opportunities to research historical information to improve museum webpages.

Help with education activities for children and young people.

Skills & Qualities

Confident in dealing with a wide range of people
Courteous, friendly and helpful
A general interest in history would be advantageous but not essential

When & Where?

Volunteering slots are available for the following dates/times -

April - May 2022
Saturdays & Sundays
11am - 2pm, 2pm - 4:30pm

June - October 2022
Wednesdays to Sundays
11am - 2pm, 2pm - 4:30pm

Flexible shifts depending on your availability (we will advise you on volunteering availability so that you can let us know which dates/times would be best for you).

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Volunteers will be provided with full training before and during their time at the museum. Volunteers also have the option to claim travel expenses (bus fare).

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers will receive a Northern Museums Volunteer Pass (valid for 2 years at participating museums).

Volunteers will gain experience in customer service and valuable knowledge of the museums and heritage sector.
