Depending on the role chosen, volunteers will either work in the kitchen preparing 2 course hot and healthy meals, support children and families in taking part in active, craft or play activities or deliver cook at home meals and activities to families. The kitchen team leader will lead a small team in preparing the meal and may also work with our Make Lunch Co-ordinator to plan menus and shopping lists.
The kitchen team leader will need to complete a Food Safety Level 2 course. Others in the kitchen team are welcome to complete this course. This training is available for free if required.
Those volunteering with us while children are present will need a relevant DBS certificate and will need to complete the Methodist Church’s Foundation Safeguarding course.
We will also provide a short training session about Make Lunch for all new volunteers.
New volunteers are welcome to join us for one session to ‘try out’ volunteering with us before training is completed.

Knowing that you are supporting families, who may find providing food and social experiences during the school holidays when families most need access to these.
Meeting new people, becoming a part of a great team of volunteers and getting to know children and their families.
Make Lunch usually runs in-person sessions 8 times a year during school holidays. Volunteers for these are usually needed between 10am and 2pm, although those taking a leadership role may be needed for longer. Those delivering are usually needed for around 1 hour.
Although Make Lunch is run by a church, our activities at Make Lunch are non-faith based. Volunteers are invited to pray as part of our team ahead of Make Lunch sessions and families involved are invited to other church activities for children and families.
