Harbour supports families and individuals who have been affected by domestic abuse. We believe that everyone has the right to live free from abuse and violence.
Volunteering at Harbour is a great way to gain valuable work experience, learn new skills and meet new people. We value our volunteers because they bring invaluable experience and enthusiasm to our work, and help strengthen our links with the communities we serve. We have a number of volunteering opportunities available and provide dedicated training programs, which may lead to an accredited qualification.
Volunteer Support Worker - provide advice and support to clients living in refuge and accessing Harbour's otreach service.
Volunteer Children & Young People's Worker - support families and children living in refuge and the local community, providing fun and stimulating activities.
Volunteer Peer Mentor - provide emotional and practical support to clients recovering from domestic abuse.
Volunteer Translator - will work with the staff team to minimise barriers to support.
There are volunteering opportunities to provide support in both refuge and local community settings. Volunteers may be asked to work individually or in a team with outher staff members.
Volunteer roles are challenging and highly rewarding. Our volunteers make a real difference to the lives of families and individuals who have been affected by domestic abuse.

Volunteering opportunites are available accross County Durham.
Volunteering opportunites are flexible but we usually ask for volunteers to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week.
Harbour Support Services provides full volunteer training.
All volunteers receive regular support and supervision.
Harbour volunteers are able to claim reasonable out of pocket expenses, including travel expenses.
