Garden volunteer for our farm project

Consett

The volunteer would be working alongside a small group of young vulnerable adults with a range of disabilities who are working towards their Preparing for Adulthood qualifications.
To explain and support the young people throughout the whole process of planting and growing. The Learning for Life staff team would also always be on hand with the young people.
The gardening project is to be started from scratch which includes the installation of raised beds then the process of planting and growing of various vegetables. A sensory garden is also being planned.

Responsibilities

The volunteer would have an active role encouraging and helping our young people to garden and all the processes involved.

Skills & Qualities

Gardening knowledge
Being able to talk to our young people and assist in all aspects of the gardening that will be involved in establishing raised beds and vegetable patches.
Adhering to all Health and Safety guidelines

When & Where?

Herbert Street, Consett is our Head Office address, but the main gardening activities would take place at Haystax Inclusive Farm Experience on the outskirts of Consett (DH8 9HB)

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

Travel expenses would be paid.

A current driving licence if it covered driving a minibus would be a great advantage.

A DBS check is required for this volunteer opportunity (paid for by Learning for Life)
