Fareshare Volunteer

Crook/Willington

We are seeking volunteers to work within our Fareshare Programme. We operate On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Fareshare programme works as part of Our Confident Community which also incorporates a Food Bank, one to one support and activity, and group events. You will be part of a team that work closely with our local community.

Responsibilities

We are seeking people who are prepared to coordinate one day of the week - either Monday Wednesday or Friday. This involves receiving donated food. Ensuring all food is sorted and packed within Food Hygiene and Covid regulations. Once food is sorted you prepare food for collection. Referrals come by phone, facebook and in person and the ability to deal with sensitivity and confidence with all ages and people is essential. Then the food is prepared for an hour collection time when food is carried to the car park for those collecting. The brief conversations can be as important as the food and a willingness to engage with people well is essential. When the food has gone the tables need cleaning down, waste sorted and disposed of and dependent on other building activity sometimes tables and food and crates moved to clear the space. We are a team who work well together - there are people who are incredibly supportive but our recent coordinators have all gained employment and we delight in their success but need some great people to replace them.

We do ask people to undertake basic Safeguarding training. There are experienced volunteers who are part of the team and advice and support from the Church Lead and Volunteer otherwise known as Chaos Coordinator! and other people who work within the overall work of Our Confident Community. Refreshments are provided. The volunteers who are required to collect or deliver food do receive a mileage allowance.

Volunteer Benefits

The best thing is the people we serve and work with! However we are a great team, often referred to by several volunteers as a family. Several of our volunteers have chosen to undertake training and the combination of their experience and effort has resulted in them gaining confidence and work. There is a Community Café on site who we work closely with. We do our best to care for each other as we can.

Other Information

We are seeking people who can hopefully familiarise themselves with the work to see if it suits them during August and start taking responsibility from September. Please note the summer holidays are always one of our busiest times so it will be seeing it when it is busy!
