Are you able to listen? Are you dedicated? Would you enjoy working as part of a team?
We are looking for compassionate, dedicated and reliable volunteers to join our Emergency Response Teams which operate to support of our local communities via key partners i.e. Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Durham Constabulary, Durham County Council.
Volunteer activities can include:-
> Providing immediate emotional support after a domestic fire via the Fire and Emergency Support Services vehicle
> Offering practical help such as the provision of clothing, food and shelter
> Offering advice re temporary accommodation, contacting home insurance companies etc
Who will I help?
You will support those who have been directly affected by domestic fire and who have may been displaced. This vital and rewarding role allows us to support those people in crisis, assisting them as they begin to rebuild their lives by guiding them through important and immediate decisions.
You could make a real difference
Our volunteers work on a shift rota basis and are called out by text / phone call. All of our volunteers are fully trained and inducted. It is preferable if you hold a full driving licence, have access to your own transport and live within 30 minutes of our vehicle bases.
You don’t need any experience to be an emergency response volunteer. We’ll give you all the training and protective clothing you need to do your role.
You will be part of an on-call rota, working alongside other organisations and local authorities.
You need to be willing to respond to a call-out at unsocial hours.
Volunteering in an emergency will give you the chance to:
• meet new people and be part of a close-knit team
• learn new skills and gain valuable experience
• give vital help to your local community when it’s needed most.
