The Northumberland and Durham Swimming Association (NDSA) is part of the SE NER and supports its affiliated clubs by providing governance and structure to aquatics within the North East of England.

It runs the County Swimming Championships annually, enabling swimmers to compete against others of the same age and ability from within the area, facilitating development of their foundation skills and recognising their potential to progress onto Regional and National championships.

They also provide additional training opportunities for talented athletes and coaches, over and above that provided by clubs, and support networks of clubs and coaches who work together.

Responsibilities

The Northumberland and Durham County Board is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, experienced and honest Chairperson.

In this role the Chairperson would be required to work with the current County Board and the Region’s Development Team to manage and guide the Board to meet the requirements of the County, SENE and SE over the next 5 years.

Skills & Qualities

Who we are looking for?
• You will have a passion for sport with a good knowledge/experience of sports clubs, club governance, and aquatics within the county/region.
• You will demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience in leading a group of likeminded individuals for a common purpose.
• You will be approachable, diplomatic and helpful.
• Have the ability to maintain harmony in the county.
• Ideally not currently be in a governance position in an affiliated club

What do we expect from you?
• To provide support, motivation and leadership to the Northumberland and Durham Board dealing with issues as and when they arise.
• To chair meetings; working with the secretary to finalise the agenda to support the development of the county
• To oversee and guide decisions relating to the future direction of the county and its initiatives
• To support the Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare Officer in their roles within the county
• To help ensure the correct governance and smooth running of all aspects of the county in accordance with its rules, constitution and by-laws and also Swim England law and UK law.

Level of commitment required.
• Attendance at Northumberland and Durham Board meetings (inc ACM) in person and online approximately 6 times a year.
• Support with governance.
• Other time commitments in addition to this e.g. attendance at county network/regional/national forums and meetings when required
• Administrative work in relation to the role
• The term of appointment is to be confirmed, but expected to be at least 2 years
• This is a voluntary position however travel and other legitimate expenses will be paid?


When & Where?

Meetings are usually held online, although if it is to be in-person plenty of notice is given.
