Collection cans are a classic way to raise funds for Daft as a Brush, every penny counts, and every can needs a champion! As a Collection Can Fundraiser, you’ll help plan, place, monitor, and collect funds from our network of collection cans. Whether you’re out and about in your own car (with the right insurance and MOT, of course) or using a DAAB vehicle, you’ll be helping to keep the donations flowing and the charity’s profile high in the community. If you like meeting people, enjoy a bit of a treasure hunt, and don’t mind counting coins, this is the role for you
What you’ll do (key responsibilities)
Planning & placement
• Identify new locations for collection cans, shops, cafes, pubs, and other friendly venues.
• Help plan routes for placing and collecting cans, making sure they’re easy to manage and cover.
Monitoring & collection
• Regularly check on collection cans, monitor their performance, and arrange timely collections.
• Collect full cans, replace with empty ones, and thank venue staff for their support.
• Count, record, and bank donations securely, following DAAB’s cash-handling procedures.
Compliance & vehicle use
• If using your own vehicle, ensure you have business use insurance and a valid MOT certificate; mileage will be reimbursed in line with HMRC guidance.
• If using a DAAB car, licence checks will be required.
• Keep accurate records of collections, routes, and expenses.
Teamwork & communication
• Work closely with the Fundraising Manager and other volunteers to coordinate can placements and collections.
• Represent DAAB professionally in the community, be a friendly ambassador, not a pushy salesperson.
• Share feedback and ideas for improving the collection can programme.
