Coffee Morning Meet and Greet Volunteer

Bishop Auckland

To support our team in delivering a welcoming Coffee Morning on Woodhouse Close estate.

Duties may involve welcoming people into the centre, encouraging people to sign in, introducing people to each other, encouraging conversation.

Responsibilities

In our Youth and Community Centre we include food in many of our activities, food brings people together, fosters community, and encourages people to have conversations.

In March we would like to open our community centre for more hours during the week to allow members of the community to benefit from our warm and welcoming space, but it’s not welcoming unless there are people to welcome you and make you a nice hot drink! That’s where you come in.

We are flexible in terms of the role you may play in our centre, if you’ve got a skill, hobby, or interest that you’d like to share with our centre users we’d love to hear more about it, and we may be able to build a role around you.

We are committed to equality and diversity, and we are happy to modify roles and provide reasonable adjustments to ensure that volunteering is accessible to everyone.

Skills & Qualities

Auckland Youth and Community Centre has a commitment to safeguarding and protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults and we require all volunteers to commit to our culture of safeguarding.

No experience is needed for this role.

Personal qualities needed to be a great kitchen assistant volunteer are:
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• An interest in people and community.
• Problem solving skills.
• Being a good listener.
• Patience.
• Positivity.

When & Where?

Auckland Youth and Community Centre is situated near to a variety of bus routes and we will reimburse travel expenses for volunteers.

We are committed to equality and diversity, and we are happy to modify roles and provide reasonable adjustments to ensure that volunteering is accessible to everyone.

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

You will receive an induction to AYCC, including an introduction to GDPR and safeguarding. We work with all our volunteers to identify opportunities for further training and development on a one-to-one basis with our dedicated volunteer coordinator.

For this role you will be invited to complete a Food Safety Level 2 qualification which will be at no cost to you.

AYCC will reimburse any reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred by volunteers in support of the centre’s activities.

This role could be a good stepping stone for ongoing training in community or youth working. The Youth Sector has a variety of small conferences and meetings which volunteers may be invited to. You may be interested in collaborating with other organisations to help us signpost individuals to appropriate support. Costs would be covered by AYCC for any training offered.

Volunteer Benefits

This role is a great way to build relationships with a wide variety of community members before embarking in a career as a youth worker, community development worker or setting up your own community project.

Supporting communities is incredibly rewarding, you could get the buzz of knowing that you helped create a safe and warm space for people to get together and reduce social isolation.

There are always leftovers! Feel free to eat in the session, or take some home for later.

Become part of an established team, youth and community work is enjoyable, and no two days are the same.

You would have the support of a dedicated volunteer coordinator to ensure you feel happy, supported, and have opportunities for training and development which are tailored to you as an individual.
