Activity Group Support Volunteer

Chester le Street, Durham City

We run small activity groups for adults who are socially isolated and we are in need of some regular support for our small friendly charity.

Responsibilities

We are in need of help running our groups. Depending on your experience you may be support only where you're meeting and greeting our participants, making tea, helping to clear up etc, you may want to lead an activity, or you may have particular skills to offer. As long as you can be reliable and you are friendly an approachable, we can shape your role to suit you.

If face to face volunteering is not for you but you’d like to help, please contact us to see what else we can offer, we do have some remote roles too which we are looking to fill.

Skills & Qualities

Activities can be anything our participants would enjoy so no particular talents required other than a friendly, non-judgemental personality and a reliable commitment.

Experience in mental health would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Our charity's values are 'Connection', 'Acceptance' and 'Achievement', and your commitment to those values and willingness to join in and help are more important to us than any formal training. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to connect with others, and we ask our volunteers to support us in making our participants feel welcome and important.

We use google suite for our policies and procedures (very similar to Microsoft, we will arrange access for you), and WhatsApp to communicate, so a low level of computer literacy is advantageous but we will support you with this.

When & Where?

We currently have a group running in Sacriston at The Fulforth Centre on a Friday afternoon. Other groups are being looked at.
We are often working on remote/mobile charity business on Monday and Tuesday's

Training and Support Offered/Expenses

We offer training to support you in your chosen role where you can complete the training modules offered online, or with our support offline. We also offer dementia friends training if requested.

Volunteer Benefits

We are not able to financially reward our volunteers, however we are a friendly supportive team and we like to ensure our volunteers are well supported and benefiting from their volunteering role in whatever way we can. We are happy to provide references and help with job applications, and will support each other in any way we can.
