New College Durham is looking for new members to join its governing body, the Corporation Board, to help us progress towards our vision and fulfil our goals. We are a Higher and Further Education College with an outstanding reputation for delivering first class teaching and learning. This is reflected in our student achievement and retention rates which are consistently above the national average.

Our Board Members are vital to guaranteeing our students’ success. They help ensure that the College offers the best qualifications and has to the most up to date resources so our students develop the skills and knowledge that employers want.

We welcome applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds but are particularly seeking those with experience in higher education, finance, audit, healthcare and those with business, commercial or digital experience.

Responsibilities

As a Board Member you will use your skills and experience to help our Senior Leaders shape the College’s Strategy and meet our vision of becoming a leading provider in the North East region, nationally and internationally. You will contribute to the College’s wider Strategic Plan including finance, estates, IT, HR, curriculum, student experience and much more.

Skills & Qualities

We are looking for people who can bring professional experience and insight to our boardroom table. We are ambitious, dynamic and forward thinking, and we hope you are too.

When & Where?

The Board meets 8 times a year, usually twice a term. In addition, individual Committees meet 3 or 4 times a year. Members are encouraged to join at least one Committee in addition to their contribution to the main Board.

This is a voluntary role which offers great opportunities for personal and professional development. You will be part of a thriving organisation with an outstanding reputation and you will work alongside our Senior Leadership Team and Board Members from a wide variety of backgrounds.

You will have the opportunity to access training delivered by both the College and external organisations and, working alongside your fellow Board Members, you will be actively encouraged to identify any training needs you may have to enable you to be as effective as possible at bringing your skills to our Boardroom.
